US Accelerates Military Buildup in Middle East Amid Iran Tensions - Aquila Telegram

The United States is rapidly deploying air assets and equipment to the Middle East, supported by refueling tankers and with the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group transiting the Indian Ocean. Flight tracking data shows multiple KC-135 and KC-46 tankers crossing the Atlantic from US bases to Europe and onward to the region, enabling long-range fighter deployments.

Air Force Deployment of a squadron of F-15E Strike Eagles from RAF Lakenheath, UK, flew to bases in Jordan and the Middle East on January 18, accompanied by four tankers and C-17 cargo planes hauling support gear. 
US Air National Guard units under Air Mobility Command are listed for missions to RAF bases like Muwaffaq Salti in Jordan, including refueling ops from March AB and en-route flights as of late January.
These movements join existing F-15 squadrons from North Carolina and Idaho, boosting US airpower amid rising tensions with Iran.



Additional US naval movements continue:

The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), with Carrier Air Wing 9, escorts including destroyers USS Spruance and USS Michael Murphy, rerouted from the South China Sea through the Malacca Strait toward CENTCOM's area. As of mid-January 2026, the strike group remains in the Indian Ocean, days from entering the Middle East, signaling enhanced strike and defense options. This follows C-17 deliveries of Patriot systems to Diego Garcia, aligning with the airlift patterns.



The Strategic Context:

Deployments coincide with Iranian protests, threats against US bases, and President Trump's considerations on regional action. CENTCOM confirmed the F-15 arrivals to enhance readiness and stability, while tankers ensure sustained operations.
