Pentagon Warns of Iran's Military Rebuild and Nuclear Ambitions in New Strategy - Aquila Telegram

The Pentagon released its 2026 National Defense Strategy on Friday evening, highlighting Iran's determination to rebuild its conventional forces despite recent setbacks and noting Tehran leaders' openness to pursuing nuclear weapons again. This annual document outlines U.S. defense priorities amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.

The strategy describes Iran as "weaker and more vulnerable than it has been in decades" following U.S. Operation Midnight Hammer in June 2025, which "obliterated" key nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Israeli strikes have also "devastated" Iran's "Axis of Resistance," severely degrading proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah. Despite these blows, the report states Iran "appears intent on reconstituting its conventional military forces" and its leaders have "left open the possibility that they will try again to obtain a nuclear weapon," citing refusal to engage in meaningful negotiations.

The release coincides with U.S. military buildup, including the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group and F-15E fighters heading to the region, as President Trump warns of an "armada" in response to Iran's crackdown on nationwide protests that killed thousands. Trump recently threatened intervention but held back after Iran reportedly paused executions of protesters.

A senior Iranian official countered that any U.S. attack would trigger "all-out war," vowing the harshest response.
